Volunteer spotlight: Tracey Hughes

NHBF volunteer, Tracey Hughes, affixes Festival stickers to books for the 2025 children & family’s keynote.

Each year, more 100 volunteers generously give their time and talents at the NH Book Festival. The two-day event relies on their energy and enthusiasm—we really couldn’t do it without them!

We’re so thankful for our volunteers we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Tracey Hughes, one of our star volunteers, and an employee of Northeast Delta Dental, one of the festival’s generous sponsors.

“My volunteer experience hasn't felt like work at all,” Tracey says. “In fact, I feel as if you are all doing me a favor by letting me be part of such a fun event. When asked about the festival, I tell people they should definitely check it out. There is something for all ages and good food too. I often wear my volunteer T-shirt in September to help advertise the event.”

Tracey’s highlights:

Highlights for me in past years have been the children's authors. My children are grown but I love giving the children in my life books that inspire them to be readers. The festivals have helped me choose many really great books. This year, I think the highlight will likely be Jodi Picoult.

What books are on your nightstand?

I’m currently reading Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler, which is part of the Earthseed series. One of my daughters recommended it. It is an excellent but heavy read, so next on my list is something more uplifting: Theo of Golden by Allen Levi is already waiting on my nightstand. After that, I am open to recommendations!

Volunteer registration for the 2026 NH Book Festival opens in June. Stay tuned for our email and social media posts calling for volunteers. We’d love for you to be a part of the celebration.
